VMware NSX-v 6.4 Released

VMware_NSX_logo VMware has released version 6.4.0 of NSX for vSphere. The information below is straight from the release notes. A lot of new goodness has been added around DFW services and I was pleased to note that the NSX UI plugin for the HTML5 vSphere Client is included. Another interesting feature is IPv6-to-IPv4 NAT (NAT64) has been added to the ESG.

The Enterprise Cloud Bell Curve

This set of questions comes up a lot in conversations with my customers, “What should my Enterprise Cloud look like? Should I stick with Private Cloud, should I go Hybrid Cloud or put everything into the Public Cloud? Which Public Cloud provider is the best?” It is a confusing time for enterprises developing their cloud strategies and my answer invariably is “it depends”, because every customer is a snow-flake with completely different business goals, business problems and constraints to be met. VCDX – VMware Premier Partner Level Requirement?

There have been observations within the VCDX community, that unless the VCDX count breaks 1,000 within 10 years, it will fade into obscurity. These anecdotal figures were derived from the CCIE program which Cisco built as the first elite certification program within the networking industry. We are approaching a decade of VCDX and the current count is 265, obviously very well short of 1,000. And of those 265 VCDXs, 38 are double VCDX and 5 are triple VCDX at this time. To date, no-one has achieved quadruple VCDX. It is also interesting to note, that only 8 companies world-wide have 4 or more VCDX on-staff (with VMware, Nutanix and Dell Technologies being the top three respectively).

Nutanix AOS 5.5 Released

Nutanix has released version 5.5 (codename “Obelix”) of their Acropolis Operating System (AOS). For Nutants, this release is the capstone of Nutanix goodness. Be aware that the full list of Obelix features could not fit into one major release and is actually being released over the coming months as a series of minor releases (5.5.0, 5.5.1, 5.5.2, etc.).

This obviously also means that the supporting components of the Nutanix eco-system also have new releases to complement AOS, namely AHV, Prism Central, NCC, LCM and Foundation. Please refer to the resources section at the end for links to downloads and release notes.
