VCDX – Enhanced Design Decisions
As a VCDX Mentor and NPX Panelist, I review many designs. During a recent review I saw an interesting twist to the design documentation that could be of benefit to all VCDX and NPX candidates.
XtremIO Firmware Upgrade
Recently I upgraded the XtremIO X-Brick in the RoundTower DemoLab to a later version. Dell-EMC requires you to open a ticket and schedule time for their support staff to do the upgrade for you. These are the steps required.
Nutanix .NEXT EU Announcements
Last week, Nutanix .NEXT EU was held in Nice, France. There were four announcements of note:
- Nutanix announces support for Intel Skylake processors with Enterprise Cloud OS – their new G6 platform will be available soon.
- How Nutanix Marketplace Brings Developers and IT Together – as part of the impending Calm release, the marketplace for code will be available for the rapid deployment of complex application blueprints.
- Reimagine Object-based Storage in a Multi-cloud Era – Acropolis Object Storage Service will soon be a reality. Existing Acropolis services are ABS, AFS and ACS.
- Flexibility and Expanded Application Support with Compute Cloud – support for compute-only nodes.
#SFD14 – Dell-EMC VMAX All Flash Review
The first cab off the rank at Storage Field Day 14, where I was lucky enough to be invited as a delegate, was Dell-EMC with their flagship storage solution the VMAX All Flash. The last time I used Symmetrix with deadly intent, was the VMAX2 for running business critical banking applications, which was a success. Since then, I have always been a fan of the VMAX; great product, great support, great experience for a legacy 3-tier architecture.
VCDX – Throwing Bones
In movies about courtroom dramas, you will commonly hear objections from the prosecution or the defence to the judge about leading the witness. That is, the witness has to think and speak independently without live coaching or prompting. The panel-based defences for VCDX, CCAr and NPX have the same premise.

Long time listener, first time caller, I have always been a fan of the Tech Field Day series, they produce great content. Next week I am attending Storage Field Day 14 as a first time delegate. Looking forward to hearing what Dell-EMC, Scality and E8 Storage have to present over the 3 day event in SJC. Also looking forward to hanging out with my fellow delegates.
